Protestors at a 2 day vigil outside the Biotenz / NZ LifeSciences Network Conference at the Auckland Sheraton Hotel. The vigil called for a ban, or labelling of GE foods and was a challenge to claims by Alabama scientist Dr C. Prakash that GE foods would feed the hungry. One participant pointed out that if current world food surpluses were not being used to mitigate global hunger, why then would theoretical increased yields by GE techniques make any differrence - "global hunger will be solved by political solutions not technological ones" |
