What is this all about?

Buy Nothing Day is an international day for not buying anything at all, in order to draw attention to the needless overconsumption which is rife in the developed world, and growing in many developing countries. Buy Nothing Day in New Zealand has been organised by an informal group of individuals, taking the lead from Enough! in England, and Adbusters in Canada. This year, amongst other events, Auckland will host an Activists Picnic. If you are interested in being involved, or in organising something in another centre, and want some help, contact Stuart Sontier |
"Buy Nothing Day comes from the post-modern mind of Ted Dave, graphic artist and former impulse buyer. "It's a way to resist the advertising industry and the tactics they use," Dave explains." Canadian magazine Adbusters. |
